WaterAid also seeks to influence the policy change through the Government and other Key Actors to secure and protect the rights of marginalized and vulnerable people to safe, affordable water and sanitation services.

Description

Responsibilities

• Review and verify all the payment claims and ensure compliance with financial internal controls, and ensure that transactions are processed within agreed timeline.
• Maintain the internal expenditures control system which ensures that vouchers processed are matched and completed, transactions are correctly recorded and posted in finance software; travel claims and other entitlements are duly processed.
• Take timely corrective actions on un-posted vouchers, including the vouchers with budget check errors, match exceptions, unapproved vouchers.
• Post the transactions in finance software, and prepare the offline transaction list of vouchers to be uploaded. Extract transactions posted and reports for further use when required.
• Support in the preparation of monthly financial statements, schedules, offshore reconciliation, debtors/creditor list, fixed assets register etc. Perform offline banking reconciliation and cash count.
• Custodian of cash and cheque books of WaterAid Nepal. Handle payment of petty cash as per the finance policy and maintain updated cash book. Maintain adequate cheques in office.
• Ensure proper tax calculation on each payment as per the Tax Act. Timely and accurately deposit the taxes, E-TDS filing and verification.
• Maintain log for various staff benefits reimbursed to staff, to ensure payment are made as per the policy criteria and ceiling.
• Maintain and manage filing system and booking keeping of all vouchers and other financial documents.
• Support the Finance Coordinator in financial procedures and audit action plans; and explaining the finance process and policy to staff.

Person Specification

Essential

• Bachelors in Finance or relevant discipline
• A minimum of one to two years’ work experience in financial related work preferably in I/NGOs
• IT skills particularly MS Word, Excel and Outlook
• Experience in the usage of accounting software packages and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages
• Good communication skills in written and verbal English and Nepali, with good interpersonal, negotiating and persuasive skills and experience
• Accounting knowledge in complex financial rules and regulation
• A quick learner with a “can do” attitude and ability to apply knowledge to new situations
• Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these

Desirable

• Willing to learn new finance related IT systems and procedures and software
• Aware of the banking systems and processes
• Experience of working effectively within a culturally diverse and matrix organisation
