The International Water Management Institute (IWMI)is seeking to fill the following positions at its office in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Researcher – Irrigation Engineer
Duties include conducting research for development in irrigation areas or areas which have the potential for irrigation expansion in Nepal; addressing constraints to improving agricultural water productivity at farm, national and regional scales; and formulating practical solutions within a multi-disciplinary research environment.
Candidates with a PhD/MSc in agricultural or water engineering or a related discipline, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in agricultural or water resources research or practice will be considered. A good knowledge of setting up and running hydrological models, and proven skills in data analysis and reporting are required.
Research Officer-Water Resources
Duties include contributing to monitoring and modeling watershed hydrology, and climate change analysis on various projects in Nepal; and coordinating project work on the ground, including supervision of collection of socioeconomic, biophysical and water resources data for the project team(s).
Candidates with a master’s degree in hydrology/hydrogeology and/or water resources engineering, and experience in field monitoring will be considered. Knowledge of catchment-scale hydrological models, such as the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), and the ability to travel to remote areas on extended field trips are required.
